During the race, each boat must have 10 paddlers, 1 coxswain and 1
drummer. All crew members in the boat must be registered as part of the
team for that race category. There is no limit to the number of team
members registered for each boat. Each organisation/club/institution
can enter a maximum number of THREE boats per race category. Crew
members are not allowed to switch between boats of the same
organization in the same race category.
The Organiser reserves the right to withhold double entries until
all interested organizations (which registers before the closing date)
have been assured a single team entry.
For all race categories apart from the Absolute DragonDare and
Corporate Mixed category, all registered crew must either be a
full-time member / student of the institution, or a registered member
of the club /association / society.
For Corporate Mixed category, all registered crew must be either a
full time or part time employee of a profit or non-profit organization.
Each crew member may only register and compete under one
organisation/club/institution and cannot register and compete under
another organisation/club/institution, even if in a different race
category.
DragonTugTM was conceived by dragon boating enthusiasts for fellow
dragon boat fanatics. We love the sport and wanted to create a
different sort of race- something new, something really adrenaline
pumping and also fun. This race category captures the essence of
what DragonTugTM is all about- daring oneself by daring others. In this
case, challenging another team to a test of power and strength. The
idea sprang from our search for a way of turning the usual parallel
race into something head-on, something with the adrenaline rush of an
opposing match. We sought a race structure that would have more at
stake so that teams really push the limits of endurance, speed and
power. We see a huge difference between simply training to be faster
and stronger, and publicly issuing a dare against another team. We
believe that in doing the latter, each team gains a sense of focus and
determination that no other forms of motivation can match. When
reputation is at stake, we make the leap from good to extraordinary.
When there is a clear opponent to beat, we find more within ourselves
to rise to the challenge.
So we encourage teams to throw down the gauntlet, to make a dare to
any other dragonboat team. We coordinate the responses, and arrange for
the Absolute DragonDareTM between you and your rival. Both teams get
that special limelight* during the race that tells the world the guts
they've got- and all in good spirited fun.
HOW IT WORKS During registration, you can, in addition
to signing up for any of the usual race categories - Men's Lightweight,
Men's Open, Women's Lightweight, Women's Open, Mixed, Mixed Corporate,
World Vision Tug-of-HeatsTM - indicate that your team is fired up for
an Absolute DragonDareTM. You then identify a rival whom you wish to
challenge. Upon acceptance by the opposing team, we shall arrange that
you and your rival meet head-on during the course of the event.
Alternatively, you can bypass the usual race categories and go
exclusively for a race against a chosen rival. In other words, you take
part in just one single, daredevil match.
* Teams taking part in the Absolute DragonDareTM category will be
featured on this website and will have the chance to be interviewed and
filmed in the lead-up to the race. From a team-building, team-training,
team-preparation perspective, this will undoubtedly be the most
exciting race you have ever prepared for. |
